Step-by-step instructions for adding a CAA record on GoDaddy

Every certificate authority is now required to check CAA records. You are not required to have one, but we suggest setting up a DNS CAA record so that you decide which authorities can and cannot issue certificates for your site. Here is how to add one on GoDaddy.

How to add a CAA record on GoDaddy

1. Go to the DNS Management page.
2. At the bottom of the DNS Management page you will find the Records section. Click Add and select CAA.
3. Fill in each field:
   1. Name: enter @ to point the record at your domain itself.
   2. Flags – enter the number 0
   3. Tag: enter issue to authorise ordinary certificates, or issuewild if you also want to authorise wildcard certificates. The value goes in exactly as written, lowercase.
   4. Value: enter the domain of the certificate authority you are authorising, for example digicert.com or sectigo.com.
   5. TTL: leave the default of 1 hour
4. Click Save.

How to add a CAA record on GoDaddy for domains registered with another company

1. Sign in to your My Products page.
2. Select the My Products tab.
3. Select Manage All.
4. In the top menu, click the DNS tab.
5. Select Manage Zones.
6. Enter the domain name you want and click Search.
7. On the DNS Management page, click Add in the Records section.
8. Select CAA from the menu.
9. Fill in each field:
   1. Name: enter @ to point the record at your domain itself.
   2. Flags – enter the number 0
   3. Tag: enter issue to authorise ordinary certificates, or issuewild if you also want to authorise wildcard certificates. The value goes in exactly as written, lowercase.
   4. Value: enter the domain of the certificate authority you are authorising, for example digicert.com or sectigo.com.
